SUMMARY:Encounters
DESCRIPTION:Encounters Sculpture Workshop \nThis year marks 100 Years of Yukon Aviation. \nHow can we conceivably imagine what it was like to encounter those first aircraft appearing over the horizon a century ago? \n \nWe invite you to explore the wonder of flight and the myriad strangeness of the 2020 Covid-19 situation through a solitary sculpture creation workshop.  This workshop has been devised by the Yukon Transportation Museum\, Nicole Bauberger\, and Heather Von Steinhagen to be delivered to you without face to face interaction\, without Zoom!\, and in a geographically interesting area. \nYou will leave from the starting point without knowledge of what to expect\, other than knowing you are expected to complete a sculpture with provided and found items over the next several hours.  Early in your hike you will receive direction from a surprising encounter from the sky. \nSpots for this workshop are limited. Apply today by emailing info@goYTM.ca \nWorkshop Registration form in PDF

SUMMARY:Dine YTM with Antoinette's
DESCRIPTION:Come for a fantastic night in this series of events with partnership between Antoinette’s restaurant and the Yukon Transportation Museum. \nYou’ll enjoy a 3-course meal prepared by and at Antoinette’s Restaurant\, inspired by a menu from YTM’s collection! You’ll also experience a short tour from YTM staff along with a small limited-time display! \nTickets will be priced at 49$+tax \n  \nThe first course will be Yam and pumpkin soup\, followed by a main course of a beef strip loin roast with stewed corn\, green beans\, steamed potatoes\, and sliced potatoes. For dessert\, you’ll enjoy steamed maple pudding for dessert. All of these items are similar to those featured on the Atlin Inn’s menu. \nThe Atlin Inn was created to house visitors brought to Atlin by the British Yukon Navigation Co (a subsidiary of White Pass and Yukon Route)\, and to encourage the growth of the tourist trade in Atlin. Built as a luxurious hotel\, the Atlin Inn had to have a menu that matched. \nFor more information and event tickets\, watch this page!

SUMMARY:Sas-Squash Attack: Pumpkin Carving sponsored by Save-On-Foods
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered whether the Sas-Squash exists? Maybe the person on our logo has been one all along! Whether or not the Sas-Squash exists (or if our person is one)\, we do invite you to be creative in carving yours! \nJoin the Yukon Transportation Museum and Save-On-Foods for a spectacular night of pumpkin carving. Enjoy carving a pumpkin with other community members and avoid the mess at your own home! This event will take place at the Yukon Transportation Museum and has been made possible with sponsorship from Save-On-Foods! \nThere will be candy and snacks (including veggies\, fruit\, and meat and cheese) provided by Save-On-Foods\, free of charge to all attendees! Save-On-Foods will also be sending a judge to pick out the best carvings in several categories\, and awarding 10$ gift cards to those winners. Once judging is complete at the end of the night\, everyone is invited to take their pumpkin home with them. \nTo purchase your tickets in advance\, visit our eventbrite page! \n6$ for one individual\, including one pumpkin. \n10$ for groups/families (up to four individuals)\, includes one pumpkin. \nAdditional pumpkins can also be purchased for 6$ \nAll participants below the age of 14 will need to be accompanied by an adult\, and all participants will be asked to sign a waiver before participating. \n \nDid you know that one of the places that Sasquatches are most commonly associated with is the Pacific Northwest\, including Oregon? Coincidentally\, that’s where our pumpkins come from too. After Save-On-Foods buyers go to the market to purchase pumpkins in Oregon\, they are shipped to warehouses in BC and Edmonton to supply the whole company. Yukon’s pumpkins are shipped from the Edmonton warehouse\, and take 24 hours to leave the warehouse and arrive in Whitehorse’s store.

SUMMARY:Culture Days-Raven Making at the YTM
DESCRIPTION:Before 1920\, the sky was the domain of ravens. To recognize 100 years of Yukon aviation history in 2020 we invite your help in creating 100 ravens to fly in our model train exhibit. For more information on the significance of this\, read the story below! \nFor Culture Days 2019\, join us at the Yukon Transportation Museum from 12-1 PM on Friday\, Saturday or Sunday as our staff help you make a raven to join our miniature Whitehorse! \nKids: Please work with an adult if you are under 12. \nEveryone: On the table you will see detailed instructions and suggestions. Be creative and have fun! \nThis event is free and admission to YTM will be by donation from 12-1 PM on September 27th\, 28th\, and 29th. \n \nThe raven-making table is also regularly available in the museum when you pay admission! If you’d like assistance from one of our fantastic staff\, check out our events calendar to find a time that works for you\, or give us a call to schedule a time! \n  \nYukon aviation has and is massively influential on all the people of the Yukon. Through its 100 years we see innovation ingenuity\, social experiences\, and a century of unprecedented changes. \nThe ‘marvel of flight’ was first beheld by Yukoners on August 15th and 16th\, 1920. Four US Army De Havilland DH-4 biplanes had left from Mineola\, New York and headed northwest across the continent\, bound for Nome\, Alaska. Their purpose was to prove the feasibility of long distance air travel. \nMost of the towns and cities along their route had never seen an airplane before\, and pre-flight preparations had to include the arrangements for landing fields as well as the placing of fuel at each proposed stop. \nOn August 15th\, 1920 they landed in Whitehorse at the partially cleared plateau which is now the Whitehorse International Airport. On August 16th\, 1920 they landed on a field of Faulkner’s Farm just outside of Dawson City. \nThe wonder of these moments was a precursor to the next hundred years of Yukon aviation history which is rife with human drama\, determination\, passion\, tragedy\, and incredible change in both the lifeways of Yukoners and of global human connection. \n
